Plug in Festival! surgió en el contexto del concurso “Contenedores de diseño para el mundo”, organizado por el Centro Metropolitano de Diseño, donde obtuvo el primer premio. En consecuencia, aquello implicaba su materialización y su exhibición en el Primer Festival Internacional de Diseño de Buenos Aires.
La convocatoria buscaba reunir diversas propuestas utilizando como módulo exhibitorio a un contenedor portuario de 20 pies, que eventualmente debía transportar de manera itinerante el diseño argentino por el mundo representado a través de las diferentes propuestas seleccionadas.
Plug in Festival! es una institución nómade, un dispositivo aplicable en medios afectados por condiciones de escasez, lejanía, emergencia, o de reciente establecimiento, que tiene por objetivo satisfacer a la demanda social de integración, organización, cobijo y entretenimiento.
Plug in Festival! es un conjunto de tres módulos funcionales compactos para la puesta en marcha de instituciones de perfil sociocultural en ámbitos diversos dentro de contenedores portuarios.
La producción de este sistema para uso comunitario incluye actividades para el desarrollo cultural, social y recreativo.
Cada uno o la totalidad de los módulos pueden ser transportados en contenedores sin necesidad de instalación posterior para su puesta en funciones.
Los módulos se unen entre sí por medio de anclajes compuestos por correas que forman parte del sistema general de sujeciones del dispositivo. Este se vale de los anillos metálicos ubicados en la estructura interna del contenedor. Los anillos permiten sostener las puertas de los módulos cuando estos se abren.
La construcción del módulo se realizó enteramente con cajas y placas de terciado fenólico reaprovechado de los sistemas de embalajes de partes automotrices. La coincidente modulación de las cajas componentes con los contenedores portuarios permitió que el sistema adquiera precisión y ubicuidad.
Un par de años después de la exhibición esta iniciativa finalmente cobró vida mediante la implementación del Centro Cultural Nómade y el interés de Fundación Proa de que esta hipotética institución nómade se vuelva real.

Plug in Festival! emerged in the context of the competition “Design Containers for the World”, organized by the Metropolitan Design Center, where it was awarded First Prize. As a result, it was materialized and exhibited at the First International Design Festival of Buenos Aires.
The call sought to gather diverse proposals using a 20-foot shipping container as the exhibition module, which would eventually serve to itinerantly transport Argentine design around the world, represented through the different selected projects.
Plug in Festival! is a nomadic institution—a device applicable in contexts affected by scarcity, remoteness, emergency, or recent settlement—aimed at meeting the social demand for integration, organization, shelter, and entertainment.
It is composed of three compact functional modules designed to launch sociocultural institutions in varied settings within shipping containers. The production of this system for community use encompasses activities for cultural, social, and recreational development.
Each module, or the entire set, can be transported inside shipping containers without requiring any further installation to become operational. The modules are joined together by anchoring straps that are part of the system’s overall fastening mechanism, making use of the metal rings located within the container’s internal structure. These rings also support the doors of the modules when opened.
The construction of each module was carried out entirely with reused phenolic plywood boxes and panels from automotive packaging systems. The coinciding modularity between the component boxes and shipping containers allowed the system to achieve both precision and ubiquity.
A couple of years after its exhibition, this initiative finally came to life through the implementation of the Centro Cultural Nómade, driven by Fundación Proa’s interest in turning this hypothetical nomadic institution into a real one.
